Carinthia room in the MOVE / fitness area

Universitätsstraße 104, Klagenfurt am Wörthersee
Attend the presentation by Yannic Brückner (sports scientist) together with Manuel Rom (swimming coach for the Austrian Junior National Team & Carinthia state coach) on the topic “Sports are healthy. Or are they? RED-S—When a lack of energy becomes a risk—performance stagnates and health suffers.”
Sports are supposed to make us stronger, fitter, and more capable. But what happens when, despite regular training, the hoped-for progress fails to materialize? When performance stagnates, recovery takes longer, or the body simply doesn’t feel as resilient as usual?
The cause isn’t always the training itself. Sometimes the body simply isn’t getting what it needs: sufficient energy and enough time to recover.
This is exactly where RED-S (Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport) comes into play. It refers to a condition in which, over an extended period, the body has too little energy available to adequately support both physical exertion and all vital bodily functions. The consequences can go far beyond a lack of training progress: hormonal balance, bone metabolism, the immune system, recovery, and mental well-being can all be affected.
We look forward to an engaging presentation and a chance to exchange ideas. Anyone interested in sports—from recreational to competitive—is warmly welcome!
