Herrengasse 9, Fulpmes
On the sunny side of the Stubai, hikers can discover a variety of cultural and natural landscapes while enjoying sweeping views of the valley. Constantly facing the sun, the Sunnenseit’n Trail leads from the Froneben midway station (1,362 m) in the Schlick 2000 area via Vergör to the Pfurtschellhöfen and on to Kartnall. The total length of the trail, which runs at an elevation between approximately 1,250 and 1,350 m and connects the towns of Neustift and Fulpmes, is about 8 km. One of the highlights of the Sunnenseit’n Trail is the suspension bridge, which spans 110 m and rises up to 50 m above the ground.
Above the suspension bridge, the “Neustiftblick” nature observation point has been created, from which visitors can admire Tyrol’s third-largest municipality, centered around Tyrol’s second-largest 18th-century village church.
At the Pfurtschell and Kartnall farms along the trail—where tourism and agriculture today ensure the families’ livelihoods—a part of the valley’s history is also visible. Protected from flooding, mudslides, and avalanches, the sunny side of the Stubai Valley has been farmed since the Middle Ages, as it is better suited for agricultural use than the shady side (known locally as the “Nederseite”).
