Helpful facts

For over 900 years, the mighty Hohenwerfen Castle has been enthroned on its steep, 155-meter-high rock cone above the Salzach Valley. The mighty defensive fortress was built at the same time as Hohensalzburg Fortress and is considered one of the best-preserved buildings from the late Middle Ages. Over the centuries it has been the scene of attacks and sieges. Great rulers and sovereigns like some Archbishop Wolf Dietrich von Raitenau were prisoners in the castle. Today you can expect a variety of entertainment and offers: From castle tours including weapons exhibition, a castle tavern, a knight store to the Landesfalkenhof with regular flight demonstrations of birds of prey.
