Tour description:
Wetland biotopes such as fens along the moorland nature trail, which have been created by swamping, are among the endangered habitats in Austria. The fen is mainly influenced by the terrain and the mineral soil. Due to the subsoil of slate and limestone, a diverse mixture of limestone and silicate indicator plants can be found on the Penken. Over 23 Red List species and 6 protected species have been identified along the nature trail. Informative display boards not only provide information about the typical biodiversity of the fen and its protected plants, but also about the species-rich fauna that can be found there.
