Monday Hike: Gerstreidalm

The Gerstreidalm, on the sunny side of the Ellmau Valley in Großarl, is located at 1,575 meters. In about 1 hour, we’ll hike up to this alpine pasture and enjoy the magnificent view along with a hearty snack or a slice of homemade cake. The descent takes us back down a beautiful trail to our starting point, the Vorderstadluck parking lot. The summit option first takes us along an alpine road and then across expansive alpine meadows up to the Saukaralm at 1,820 m, the highest alpine pasture in the Großarl Valley. We’ll follow a scenic trail up to our destination for the day, the Saukarkopf at 2,048 m. A magical panorama awaits us, offering views of the Hohe Tauern, the Hochkönig, and the Tennen and Hagen mountains. The descent follows a beautiful hiking trail to the Gerstreitalm. There, regional delicacies, a sun terrace, and authentic alpine life invite you to take a moment to relax.

Thursday Tour: Saukarkopf

Accompanied by our hiking guide, we’ll set out from the Vorderstadluck parking lot, crossing lush alpine meadows and passing the Röschenbergalm on our way up to the Saukaralm, the highest alpine pasture in the Großarl Valley. From there, a scenic trail leads us on to the Saukarkopf—once at the top, an impressive panoramic view of the Hohe Tauern, the Hochkönig, and the Tennen and Hagen mountains awaits us.

After a well-deserved break at the summit, the descent takes us back to the Saukaralm and on to the Gerstreitalm, where we can enjoy a leisurely stop for regional delicacies. Afterward, we’ll hike back together to our starting point. We’ll set off from the parking lot at the beautiful Aualm in Großarl. From there, this varied mountain hike first takes us to the Liechtensteinkopf and then on via the Aukopf to the striking Schuhflicker. Along the scenic ridgeline, impressive panoramic views of the Hohe Tauern and the Hochkönig massif unfold. After reaching the summit, the trail leads to the idyllically situated Schuhflickersee, which is the perfect spot for a short break. The tour combines scenic peaks, alpine landscapes, and a picturesque mountain lake into a varied mountain experience.
