Malta Alpine Road

The Malta Hochalm Road is one of Austria’s most scenic routes and offers an unforgettable experience. The 14.4-kilometer Alpine road winds through impressive rock tunnels, past roaring waterfalls, and past numerous viewpoints up to the Kölnbreinsperre at 1,902 meters above sea level. The drive up is an experience in itself.

Once you reach the top, Austria’s highest dam, standing 200 meters tall, awaits you. Particularly spectacular is the Airwalk, a glass platform directly above the dam from which you can look down 200 meters into the depths. In addition, the turquoise-colored Kölnbreinspeicher reservoir offers an impressive backdrop amidst the mountain landscape of the Hohe Tauern National Park.
