Helpful facts

Is that a column of stone sheep trotting up the mountain? But no! That's the Silvretta High Alpine Road, which winds its way up in 32 hairpin bends. One of the most spectacular mountain roads in the Alps, it leads from Montafon via Vermunt through the Silvretta mountains to Paznaun in Tyrol. The toll road is 22.3 kilometers long and is usually only open from May to November.

From the top of the Bielerhöhe pass, you have a breathtaking view of the highest mountain in the Austrian Silvretta, the 3,312-metre-high Piz Buin. AMRAI's insider tip: Drive up the high alpine road and park at the end of the road. Then continue on foot, turn right once onto the hiking trail that runs above until you reach a platform, where you can enjoy the peace and quiet as well as a magnificent view of the Silvretta and the serpentines. Or is this a sheep parade after all? Sometimes AMRAI looks unsheep-like.

Duration: approx. 1 hour on foot, from the parking lot

Difficulty: easy

Tip: circular hike around the Silvretta reservoir
