Helpful facts

The night and its inhabitants have fascinated us humans since time immemorial. They form the basis for stories, mysticism and exciting experiences. But natural darkness is more threatened than ever in the world of the 21st century. Streetlights, floodlights from industrial plants, advertisements, and garden lighting are extending days well into the nighttime hours. The impact that the disappearance of darkness has on our environment will be the subject of a "nighttime mediation". Artificial lighting, colloquially known as light pollution, changes the behavior of animals and plants, makes for starless skies, and also affects our health in negative ways.

Together, we want to explore these issues and track down phenomena of the night. Equipped with our own senses, playful methods and a few technical aids, we will try to gain an insight into the behavior of creatures such as the evening glider, the evening primrose and the Hallimasch. In the show garden of Nature in the Garden, the effects of light pollution on night habitats will be discussed and made tangible by means of practical examples.
