CO2-Free Travel

Coming from Vienna, take the train to St. Pölten, then transfer to the Mariazellerbahn through the Dirndltal valley in the foothills of the Alps to the final stop in Mariazell.

We’d be happy to pick you up for free at the Mariazell train station. Please let us know your arrival time in advance.

You can also take the bus directly from Graz, Bruck an der Mur, Mürzzuschlag, or Vienna several times a day.

Directions by car

Coming from Vienna, take the A1 Westautobahn to the St. Pölten Süd exit. Then take the B20 (Mariazeller Bundesstraße) for 76 km southward, either via Annaberg and Josefsberg, or turn left from the B20 onto the B21 in Freiland and continue via Hohenberg and St. Aegyd through the Halltal valley to Mariazell (well-signposted).

– Alternatively, take the A2 Südautobahn and the S6 Semmering Expressway to Mürzzuschlag, then continue via Neuberg and Mürzsteg on the B21 to Mariazell.

– Coming from Graz, take the A9 Pyrnautobahn northbound to the St. Marein exit, then via the Pogusch to Turnau (Seebergsattel), and from Au take the B20 to Mariazell.

– Coming from Salzburg, take the A1 West Autobahn to the Ybbs exit, then the B25 to Scheibbs, continue on to Grubberg, and then take the B71 via the newly expanded Zellerrein, along Lake Erlauf to Mariazell.

One parking space per chalet or suite is included directly in the hotel parking lot. Any additional cars can be parked in the underground garage in the town center for a fee or at the P5 guest parking lot (Wiener Neustädter Straße) in Mariazell free of charge. For free parking, the guest card must be placed in a visible location inside the car.

Arrival by Helicopter

Our partners Hubifly and Heli-Line will take you to the chalet by helicopter. Of course, you can also book sightseeing flights.

The ride to/from the Mariazell train station (approx. 2 km) takes a maximum of 5 minutes.

The hotel’s own shuttle service to or from the Mariazell train station is free for our hotel guests.

Our Montestyria has two electric vehicle charging stations in the parking lot!

This service is free for our guests.

Each chalet has a covered parking space for bicycles, including an outlet so you can charge your e-bike.

The most famous bike trail is the Traisental Bike Trail.

Each chalet features a large-screen TV with all major channels in the living area and in the upstairs bedroom. You can log in to Netflix directly with your account.

Airport

The drive to/from Vienna Airport (approx. 130 km) takes a maximum of 2 hours.

If you need a taxi transfer to/from the airport, we’ll be happy to arrange it for you. A one-way trip costs €280 per car. (Reservations must be made at least 48 hours in advance—online or by phone.)

Enjoy our breakfast right in your chalet, or—weather permitting—you’re welcome to enjoy it outdoors on your private terrace.

Weddings

You are welcome to book our Bergdorf Chalets Montestyria exclusively for your wedding guests’ accommodations. There are 28 beds in total. You can book your wedding reception directly at one of the inns or at the Stadtsaal.

Heating

We heat our Bergdorf in a CO2-neutral way using a micro-district heating system.

Hotel (Location)

Montestyria is located above the town center of Mariazell at Kalvarienberg No. 5. The chalets face south, and each one offers a unique panoramic view.

It’s a 5-minute walk to the town center. The natural landscape for hiking, biking, or simply enjoying nature begins right behind the chalets.

The Mariazellerland region lies between the Hochschwab and Ötscher mountains.

Dogs & Pets

Our chalets are located right on the edge of the forest at the foot of the Mariazeller Bürgeralpe. We are frequently visited by charming deer and other forest dwellers. We respect the habitats and peace of the wildlife and have decided, in the spirit of nature, to be a dog- and cat-free property.

Hiking in the Rain / Rainy Weather Program:

The term “bad weather” is a human invention. Hiking has its own special charms, especially when it’s raining. Not a soul is outside. It’s quiet, foggy, and mystical—all you can hear is the patter of rain, your footsteps, and your breath. Rain cleanses the forest air, and oxygen levels are particularly high in rain and fog. Your heart and lungs will rejoice. As the ground and mountains “drink,” they store and filter rainwater, then release it again as spring water. Our most important elixir of life.

You’ll find umbrellas in every chalet and suite.

At the Brauhaus Mariazell, we serve traditional and contemporary cuisine made with ingredients from our local farmers. We place great emphasis on freshness and quality.

Please make online table reservations at the Brauhaus Mariazell at least 3 days before arrival; after that, please reserve at the front desk or by phone.

Boat Tours and Boat Rentals on Lake Erlauf

Since summer 2019, Lake Erlauf can also be explored aboard the “Christina,” a sightseeing boat that is over a hundred years old and has been completely restored.

During World War I, the ship—which was steam-powered at the time—was deployed on the Danube. Following its renovation, batteries now provide approximately 60 PS.
