In der Breitenau 5, Oberammergau
Founded in 1330 by Emperor Ludwig the Bavarian, the monastery even functioned as a knight's academy in between. After it was almost completely destroyed by fire and secularization in the 18th century, it was then remodeled and restored to its present form. Today, the baroque basilica and especially the rococo sacristy are famous far beyond Bavaria's borders. The monastery still houses Benedictine monks, and the monastery includes a high school, boarding school, farm, distillery, cheese factory and, of course, the brewery of the famous Ettal beer.
