The Alpspitz near Nesselwang, with an altitude of 1,575 meters, doesn't look like much when viewed from the valley. Densely forested slopes, and there is nothing to be seen of a "real" summit. But the impression is deceptive. With the Alpspitz and the Edelsberg, two beautiful, "small" lookout mountains await hikers.
At the Alpspitzbahn (An der Riese 40, 87484 Nesselwang) turn left and walk towards a small group of trees about 300 m away. There you follow the signpost to the waterfall path. After a few minutes you will reach the forest and hike comfortably in partial shade along the path by the stream. Gradually it gets a bit steeper and the path changes into footbridges and steeper stairs.
The higher you get the better the view becomes and the trees reveal the view of Nesselwang and the Allgäu. At the mountain station of the Alpspitzbahn you walk past the Alpspitz kiosk to the saddle between Alpspitz and Edelsberg. From there it is only a short distance to the summit. From the rocky crest of the Alpspitz, you have a magnificent view over the Allgäu foothills with the Grüntensee lake and the Forggen and Hopfensee lakes.
Many paths lead back to the valley. In addition to the Alpspitzbahn, you can also follow the signposts of the forest path to get back to the parking lot.
For the ascent you should plan about 1.5 to 2 hours.
Journey time to the parking lot of the Alpspitzbahn: about 30 minutes
