From the hermitage high above Saalfelden you have a wonderful view over the whole basin. It used to be important, too: back then, the shelter built into the rock was home to hermits who kept a lookout for fires. If they detected a fire, they would ring the bell to alert the fire department. Even today the hermitage is inhabited by a hermit and is a popular hiking destination for locals and guests.
