Short description
The fort of Oga is located at an altitude of about 1730 meters above sea level in a place that was identified with the place-name of Dossaccio. Planned in the early years of the 20th century, at first at Motte di Oga, it was then built between 1908 and 1914 to defend the main Alpine passes in case of a possible conflict with Austria and a possible enemy crossing from nearby Switzerland. From this position dominating Bormio all the main access routes to Alta Valtellina could be easily reached, from Foscagno to the Fraele valleys, from Stelvio-Umbrail to the paths to the Valfurva valleys.
