Krampus drive Seefeld

On December 6, 2024, there will be a spooky spectacle in the Seefeld pedestrian zone. From 19:00, 30 Tuifl groups from all over Austria, South Tyrol and Switzerland join forces to provide some truly spine-chilling moments.

Every year, guests and locals alike are delighted when the dark figures put this special custom on display in Seefeld. Younger visitors in particular can hardly wait for the Krampuses to leave their hiding places and reveal their larvae. But at the latest when the first muffled bells and the clicking of the rods can be heard at the Hotel Klosterbräu, even the last cheeky little one falls silent and gladly seeks shelter behind mom and dad or another strong companion. Because then the Tuifl and Krampus are on the loose in Seefeld!

Tradition with rod, measure and goal

Anyone who has ever experienced a Krampus run in Seefeld knows that things are a little more traditional here than at many other Krampus runs. Although Bengal fires are lit and small shows are performed, the Tuifl remain completely Krampus and sometimes reach for the rod to give the one or other brave and cheeky one. "Of course we don't hit them hard," explains Daniel (Danny) White, who has been organizing the Krampus drive in Seefeld for around 15 years. Everything has a measure and a goal. "But the thrill should remain, especially for the young visitors: will Krampus catch me today or not?"

Groups from far and wide

22 groups took part in 2023, some coming from far and wide. Seefeld's Kampustreiben not only enjoys an excellent reputation among guests, but also in Tuifl circles. So good, in fact, that three new Tyrolean groups - the Tuifln from Kitzbühel, St. Johann in Tirol and Steinach am Brenner - made the pedestrian zone unsafe last year and gave the audience the creeps.

Finale and after-show party in the Kurpark

The traditional finale of the Krampus festival takes place in the Kurpark Seefeld. There, the groups are introduced individually with a short performance. Afterwards, there is an after-show party with DJ music, food and drink, where nobody has to be scared anymore.

Organizer Danny White tells us more about Krampus, the tradition and the Seefeld Krampus drive on our blog: blog.seefeld.com.

Those who still haven't had enough of Krampus will get their money's worth again the very next day: at the Krampus show on Saturday again features 15 groups from the Alpine region - followed by an after-show party in the Kurpark.
