Mountain fire

On the eve of the anniversary of King Ludwig II's death, a few "older lads" from the municipality of Schwangau light a cross in his honor on the Tegelberg, which is visible throughout the region. The names of the men are not known because, after all, this is all about honoring the king. The burning symbol is unique and underlines the importance of what the king created for the region and, above all, left to the country. And in Schwangau in particular, the deep connection with the king can still be felt today.

King Ludwig II died on June 13, 1886 at Lake Starnberg under unexplained circumstances. He became known and famous for his buildings, above all Neuschwanstein Castle in Schwangau.
