Gut Sonnberghof - Naturhotel
National Park Ranger Tour
We meet at the entrance to the inner Felbertal, a few meters after the turn-off from the Felbertauernstraße. Here, at the bottom of the valley near the Schösswendklamm gorge, water masses have been forcing their way through the rock, consisting of biotite, hornblende and green slate, for thousands of years. This has created interesting erosion forms, potholes and small waterfalls. We follow the gorge to the Hintersee lake and learn interesting facts about the flora and fauna in the Felbertal valley as well as the formation of the Hintersee lake. On the north side of the lake, we follow the circular trail to a hill with a view over the head of the valley with its imposing rock faces, where chamois cavort, and follow the trail back to our starting point.
