Guided tour by former Swiss Gu ards and thus experience first hand what it is like to protect the Pope.

The Swiss Guard Museum is located in the former artillery fortress of Naters. The military fortress was built in 1939/1940 and has been modernized ever since. Its cannons protected the strategically important Simplon Pass and the Simplon railroad tunnel.

The fortress housed up to 200 men and is like a small underground village with all the facilities from the kitchen to the detention center. Until 2002 the fortress was secret. In the meantime, the municipality of Naters bought the site and theZentrum Garde was opened here in November 2006.

Good to know:

A guided tour for groups of 10 or more can be booked daily and all year round. Combination with apero, snack, visit of the fortress on request.
