Hike to Thaler Viehscheid with Sepp

On Friday, September 18, 2026, the traditional Thaler Viehscheid will take place in Thalkirchdorf—one of the largest festivals of its kind in the Allgäu region. After about 100 days on the alpine pastures, festively decorated cows, led by the “Kranzrind” (crowned cow), return to the valley and are handed over to their owners at the Scheidplatz.

Instead of taking the shuttle bus, why not enjoy a mood-filled, guided hike from the hotel to the Thalkirchdorf Scheidplatz? Along gentle trails through autumnal landscapes, you can experience the return of the herds firsthand. At your destination, you’ll be greeted by living traditions featuring traditional costumes, brass band music, regional specialties, and a genuine Allgäu festive atmosphere.

Pack a small backpack with water—feel free to ask for a bottle at the front desk. Don’t forget to bring a light jacket, as the weather in the mountains can change quickly. Sturdy shoes are recommended, even though the trail is mostly easy to walk.
