Helpful facts

The impressive waterfalls are located in one of the last primeval forests in Germany. Start of the tour is opposite the alpine dairy in Steibis. Via the Christl-Cranz-Weg to the Alpe Neugreuth, from there it goes on a forest path down to the waterfalls. On the way back we cross some greens of the golf course.

From the hotel you walk in the direction of Malas to the bus stop From there you take the line 95 "direction Hochgratbahn" to the bus stop"Steibis Ortsmitte". This bus is free of charge for you with your guest card. Opposite the alpine dairy in Steibis we reach the Christl-Cranz-Weg via the street Aachrain. With a beautiful view of the Hochgrat, this soon leads into a forest. At the beginning of the forest keep left and follow the path further. Turn left and you will come to the Alpe Neugreuth (refreshments). Continue into the natural forest Aachrain, which with its pristine nature is one of the last primeval forests in Germany. The descent to the waterfalls is demanding, especially in the lower section, and requires sturdy shoes and surefootedness. Especially when wet, the forest floor is soggy and there is a risk of slipping.

On the way to the lower catch basin, you pass two rock steps made of nagelfluh rock, over which the water of the Weißach falls with a loud roar. An impressive natural spectacle! In addition to the Eistobel and the Breitachklamm, the Buchenegger Waterfalls are also part of the Allgäu Geopark, the most beautiful natural treasures of this region.

The way back up initially follows the same path. Once you reach the top of the forest, this time turn left and follow the red markings of the Allgäu hiking trilogy. After crossing a meadow, a forest section follows, turn right there and above the Neugschwend alpine pasture onto the hiking trail in the direction of Steibis. In the forest, take the first turn to the left and cross the road. Cross the golf course into the Au and follow the signs back to the village center.
