The castle ruins of Eisenberg and Hohenfreyberg

Location
Burgweg 50, Eisenberg, Deutschland
Helpful facts

The largest castle ruins in the Allgäu form an ensemble of castles visible from afar.

Eisenberg Castle was first mentioned in a document in 1345; it burned down in 1646. Its landmark, an unusually high circular wall, can still be seen today. The opposite castle, Hohenfreyberg, was built in the 15th century, but today is also only preserved as a ruin.

From the hotel, drive in the direction of Füssen/Weißensee and then on to Zell. The starting point for conquering the castles is the Schlossbergalm, (Burgweg 50, 87637 Eisenberg) to which a single-lane road leads up from Zell.

From there, a somewhat steeper path leads up to the saddle.
