The history of the "Rehbach" began in the middle of the 16th century. At that time, this alpine pasture and the Vils valley served as a thoroughfare and overnight accommodation for lumberjacks, hunters, shepherds and carters.

The years went by and the locals gradually got to know and love the Rehbach. As early as the end of the 17th century, there are written records of people living and drinking together "zu Rehbach". People began to particularly appreciate South Tyrolean wine, which was brought to the "Rehbacher Weinstube" by train and horse-drawn carriage as early as the 19th century.

After the difficult war years, the Bestle family continued to run the Rehbach as a wine tavern and Tyrolean inn and by the 1950s it was already known far and wide in the Allgäu and Tyrol. In 2005, the inn was converted into the "Landhotel Rehbach", which was run by the Bestle family until 2012. In the spring of the same year, the "Rehbach" was taken over by the Barbist family.

Since then, Martin Barbist and his wife Margit have endeavored to establish the Hotel Rehbach primarily as a place of peace and relaxation in the Tannheimer Tal's diverse offerings. With the generous expansion of the wellness area and the new construction of the front wing of the house (incl. lounge, bar and 22 rooms), some things have already been successfully implemented; but the future of the hotel is already being worked on.
