History of the estate
Rattelvitz Manor was first mentioned in a document in 1318. From 1400 it belonged to the manors of the von der Osten family. In 1817, the estate became the property of the von Platen family, who were prominent on the island of Rügen.
According to the Hagenow map of 1829, today's single farmstead was originally located to the north of Volsvitz, directly on the Wittenberg stream; in the further course of the first half of the 19th century, the farmstead was moved about one kilometer to the south. The place name comes from the Slavic Ratnovici and means people of the Raten.
In the 14th century, the village belonged to the Kooth, Kowt or Kothe family; later, but before 1532, it passed to the von der Osten family on Capelle. Between 1810 and 1820, Rattelvitz passed to the von Platen family of Gurtitz. In 1848, the Rattelvitz outlying estate was formed from two farms .
