The story of the von Trapp family has fascinated the entire world since the Hollywood movie “The Sound of Music” aired in 1965. A central scene, in which Maria and the children fall out of the boat into the water, was filmed on the Leopoldskroner Weiher. In addition, the lawn in front of the Meierhof served as the Trapp family's garden, complete with replicas of the Schloss seahorses (the gazebo has since been relocated to Schloss Hellbrunn).
One of the palace's main rooms, the Venetian Salon on the first floor, was completely replicated in a Hollywood studio. The magnificently handcrafted golden wall panels and mirrors served as a model for the von Trapp family's ballroom. It was also the backdrop for the private performance of the marionette theater.
