Tour description:

Wetland biotopes such as fens along the Moor nature trail, which are the result of marshification, are among the most endangered habitats in Austria. The fen is mainly influenced by the terrain and mineral soil. Due to the subsoil of slate and limestone, a diverse mix of limestone and silicate indicator plants can be found at Penken. More than 23 Red List species or 6 protected species have been identified along the nature trail. Informative display boards not only provide information about the very typical biodiversity of the lowland moor and its protected plants, but also inform about the species-rich fauna that can be found there.
