The path to the Arltörl is the deepest cut between Grossarl and Dorfgastein and used to serve as the Handeslweg. There is a small chapel right by the Arltörl.
The path then leads you to the Schuhflicker, one of three limestone mountains in the Grossarl Valley. Legend has it that two shoe makers were petrified here who preferred to walk on the mountain on Sunday instead of spending Sunday mornings in church (which is why two peaks form the Schuhflicker).
Numerous climbing routes also lead to the Arlspitze, which is the front peak.
From the Schuhflicker you have a beautiful view of the Schuhflickersee. It is remarkable that there is no inflow or outflow to this lake, but the water level always remains constant. According to legend, it is connected underground to the Tappenkarsee in Kleinarl after a wagon wheel that fell into the Tappenkarsee was suddenly found in the small Schuhflickersee...
