Détails

Ludwig II was born on August 25, 1845 in Nymphenburg Palace near Munich as the eldest son of Crown Prince Maximilian and Crown Princess Marie. Traditionally, a mountain fire is lit on the Tegelberg every year to mark the occasion. The deep connection with the king can still be felt in Schwangau today. On the eve of the birth and name day, as well as on the anniversary of his death in June, a mountain fire is lit on the Tegelberg just after dark. For over 30 years, a few "older lads" from the village, who have always been anonymous, have made sure of this because, after all, it is all about the honor of the king.

The fire, which is lit high up below the summit, is visible throughout the region. The burning symbol is unique and underlines the importance of what the king has created for the region and, above all, left to the country.
