From a gentle splash to a rushing waterfall: Here you can experience the spectacle of nature up close!
With eight cascades, the Ganderbach, which rises at the Rittner Horn at 2000 m, tumbles over a 200 m high rock step. The entire catchment area consists of Bolzano quartz porphyry, a volcanic rock formed 300 million years ago. Since porphyry soils store little water, the Ganderbach Falls are particularly impressive during the mountain snowmelt in April/May and after heavy rains. In summer, the lower falls are "tapped" for corridor irrigation, so they can almost dry up.
The Ganderbach, which flows into the Eisack at Kollmann, has a length of almost 6 kilometers and overcomes an altitude difference of 1510 meters.
The lowest waterfall is the highest at 85 meters. Via a marked wild-romantic path you can get from this to the upper waterfall.
