The Mariazell museum tramway connects the pilgrimage town of Mariazell with the idyllic Lake Erlaufsee and offers a special experience for fans of technology and nostalgia. Travel back in time to the turn of the century in faithfully restored carriages and locomotives. Highlights include the oldest steam tramway locomotive in the world, dating back to 1884, which is used in appropriate conditions. The line between Mariazell and Lake Erlaufsee was completely rebuilt between 1974 and 2014 and was largely completed by dedicated members of the association on a voluntary basis. The tracks were also designed with historical elements to bring the history of Austrian streetcar and local railway technology to life. Depending on technical availability and weather conditions, the trains are pulled by steam or diesel locomotives. The nostalgic ride combines technical history, nature experience and a relaxing excursion to Lake Erlaufsee.
