La Grüne Wand Hütte si trova nel romantico e selvaggio Stillupgrund, vicino a Mayrhofen, nella Zillertal.


Il rifugio è raggiungibile attraverso una strada forestale dal lago artificiale di Stillup, accessibile anche in mountain bike / e-bike. Una vera e propria attrazione estiva nella Zillertal!


Il rifugio prende il nome dalla vetta Grüne Wand, che con i suoi 2.946 metri segna il confine con la Valle Aurina altoatesina alla fine della valle.
