Here is a list of some of the most beautiful climbs around Bormio to tackle by road bike:
Passo dello Stelvio: the most famous and fascinating climb, leading from Bormio to Passo dello Stelvio in 21 km with an elevation gain of more than 1,500 m (maximum gradient of 14%).
Gavia Pass: the climb that has been decisive in Giro d'Italia stages several times. From Bormio to the Gavia Pass there are 25 km and an elevation gain of more than 1400m: a nervous climb, with an endless series of tears with very important gradients.
Mortirolo Pass: called the most difficult climb in Europe, it leads from Mazzo in Valtellina to the Passo della Foppa in 12 km with an elevation gain of about 1300m and a maximum gradient of 18%.
Bernina Pass: long climb from Tirano to the Bernina Pass, after 33km and an elevation gain of nearly 2000m.
Foscagno Pass: climb on the road from Bormio to Livigno. A development of 24 km and an elevation gain of about 1400 m.
Cancano: climb from Premadio (just outside Bormio) to the Torri di Fraele and the entrance to the Cancano Valley along a series of hairpin bends. A development of about 9 km and an elevation gain of 750 m.
Bormio 2000: climb to the Bormio 2000 ski lifts; a distance of 10 km and an elevation gain of 700 m.
