Haydn in Heiden

The concert centers on Joseph Haydn’s *Missa in tempore belli*—also known as the “Timpani Mass.” The work is strikingly relevant today. Composed during a time of political uncertainty, it expresses both the threat and the horrors of war as well as the hope for peace. The program is complemented, among other things, by a musical tribute to Heinrich von Herzogenberg, who had close ties to Heiden through his summer residence, “Haus Abendroth.”
