Rodego Castle is one of the largest and most imposing fortified castles in South Tyrol. Perched high above the Rienz Gorge, the castle captivates visitors with its picturesque setting, fascinating history, and impressive medieval interiors. Particularly famous are the 13th-century Iwein frescoes, considered the oldest secular wall paintings in the German-speaking world. Rodenegg Castle is about a 20- to 25-minute drive away. The castle is therefore an ideal cultural destination for a half-day trip in the immediate vicinity.

During the guided tour, you’ll discover, among other things, the outer courtyard, the chapels, the inner courtyard, the castle’s old kitchen, the armory, the garden, and, of course, the famous Iwein frescoes. This excursion pairs wonderfully with a stroll through Rodeneck or a short stop in the surrounding area.
