The Villnöß Valley is one of the most beautiful landscapes in South Tyrol and captivates visitors with the imposing Geisler Peaks, green alpine meadows, and traditional mountain farms. Especially around St. Magdalena, Ranui, and the Zanser Alm, the Dolomite landscape shows its most photogenic side.

📍 Starting point:

The starting point is Zans at the Zanser Alm parking lot. From the Mountain Lodge Margit, you can reach the starting point in about 1 hour to 1 hour and 15 minutes by car.

Geisler Peaks – impressive views of one of South Tyrol’s most striking mountain backdrops

Alpine meadows and alpine pastures – unspoiled nature and traditional landscapes

St. Magdalena – an idyllic village with a famous view of the Geisler

Zanser Alm – an ideal starting point for hikes and nature experiences

🥾 Hike:

A special highlight is the hike along the Adolf-Munkel Trail to the Geisleralm—one of the most beautiful panoramic hikes in the Dolomites.

Via the Adolf-Munkel Trail – approx. 1 hour 40 minutes

Via the forest road – approx. 1 hour 20 minutes

ℹ️ Good to know:

Parking lot – subject to a fee

Parking options – limited number of spaces, some of which require online reservation

Traffic control – when the parking lot is full, access to Ranui may be regulated by a traffic light system

Alternative parking lots – in St. Magdalena / Ranui, Cleaning and Filler

💡 Our tip:

Start as early as possible at the parking lot in Zans and hike along the Adolf-Munkel Trail to the Geisleralm. This tour can be wonderfully combined with a scenic drive over the Würzjoch.

🌅 Bonus tip:

To round off the day, it’s well worth taking a panoramic drive over the Würzjoch with a view of the Peitlerkofel. A short walk to the Costaces viewpoint above the Ütia de Börz is especially worth taking. From there, you can enjoy an impressive view with an atmospheric sunset over the Peitlerkofel and the surrounding Dolomite landscape.
