Just a few minutes from the city lies the Neustift Abbey—one of Tyrol’s most important monastic complexes, featuring the abbey church, the museum, the library, and the abbey wine cellar steeped in tradition.

The winemaking tradition of Neustift Abbey dates back to 1142. This excursion therefore uniquely combines culture, history, and the delights of South Tyrol.

Combine a pleasant stroll through the historic center of Bressanone with a visit to the Neustift Monastery. Particularly enjoyable are a coffee or an aperitif in Piazza del Duomo, a stroll through the arcades, followed by a guided tour of the monastery or a visit to the abbey winery.

For Neustift Abbey, you can book guided tours of the abbey and vineyards in advance online. Guided tours of the abbey usually take place at 11:00 a.m., 2:30 p.m., or 4:00 p.m. and are available by reservation only. Book directly via the link.

🚗 How to get there and park:

From the Mountain Lodge Margit, it takes about 20–25 minutes by car to reach Bressanone or Neustift Abbey. The Priel parking lot next to the Acquarena is particularly convenient for visiting the city; from there, it takes about 6–7 minutes on foot to reach the historic center; alternatively, the central parking lot in Bressanone is also available.

🚌 By public transportation:

Alternatively, the excursion is also easily accessible by public transportation: take bus 413 from Meransen to the Mühlbach station and then the train to Bressanone. With the Südtirol Guest Pass, the trip is especially easy.

The hike pairs perfectly with a visit to the Acquarena in Bressanone.
