Meeting point Curva "Palueta" Strada Bormio 2000

Via Funivia, 3, Bormio
The PROPOSAL
There is a special trail that winds through pastures and glades, on the slopes of Mount Vallecetta... and it is ready to tell you a very ancient story! The Alpini di Piatta are waiting for you at the Palueta hairpin bend to take you on a great little adventure to discover the cupmarks, mysterious marks left on the rocks by men who lived thousands of years ago.
Together with the Alpini, we will walk through nature, listen to fascinating tales, and search for these engraved stones, a bit like little explorers from the past!
What ARE COPPELLE?
They look like just simple little holes in the rock... but in fact they are ancient engravings, created with patience and skill using other, harder stones. You find them carved on large boulders, and no one really knows for sure why they are there: were they magical symbols? Did they serve a purpose? Or were they just marks left to tell a story? Some scholars think they even date back to the Neolithic period, which is over 5,000 years ago! And the great thing is that they are still there, hidden in the woods, ready to be discovered by those with curious eyes and a desire for adventure.
Where to find them
The trail is located between 1700 and 1900 meters above sea level, along the slopes of Mount Vallecetta and runs for about 7 km. It is well marked with signs and descriptive bulletin boards placed near the boulders, thanks to the work of the Alpini di Piatta and the CMAV. The trail was opened in summer 2005.
DESTINATORS: hike suitable for everyone. It is recommended to wear hiking boots.
