Traces of the Stone Age at Pfitscher Joch

Description

Guided hike from the Zillertal Alps Nature Park

Exciting journey to the time of hunters and gatherers

We hike to the Pfitscher Joch, a striking crossing from South Tyrol into the Zillertal. Here there have been sensational Stone Age finds recently! For example, it is known that the Joch has been crossed for about 10,000 years, among other things to find and trade rock crystal. On our journey through time we use the same paths as the Stone Age hunters. Where there were animals, there were people: they followed them and thus ensured their survival. Elevated vantage points, Stone Age camps and former "workshops" are often located directly along the way - we gain intensive insights into the life and economy of the people in the mountains. The exciting exhibition "Pfitscher Joch grenzenlos" on the Lavitzalm, which we can visit, is dedicated to exactly this. In addition, we also learn something about the "Eternal Ice" and how the glaciers have shaped the landscape.
