Lake Braies is also known as the "Pearl of the Dolomite Lakes" and is located in the Braies Valley of the same name at an altitude of 1,494 meters. The emerald green mountain lake was created by a natural dam as a result of a mudslide. The lake is dominated by the imposing massif of the Seekofel (2,810 m). It is the starting point of the Dolomites High Trail no. 1 and is also part of the Fanes-Sennes-Braies Nature Park.

To get to Lake Braies, drive from the vacation village in the direction of Brunico to Villabassa. Past Villabassa/Niederdorf, a turn-off on the left leads into the Braies Valley.
