Power Yoga is an American variation of Ashtanga Yoga.
Modern Power Yoga differs from Ashtanga Yoga in one respect. In Power Yoga, the position, movement sequences and breathing technique are adapted to the practitioner, whereas in Ashtanga Yoga the movement sequences and positions always remain the same. Because the exercises are adapted to the prerequisites of the practitioners, Power Yoga becomes applicable to a wide population. Through these modifications, Indian traditional yoga becomes a form of exercise applicable to the Western world. Power Yoga is a sport in which physical strength, flexibility as well as balance and mind are trained. Through the combination of poses, which are combined into dynamic movement sequences, with the correct breathing technique, body and mind are trained and strengthened. As with all styles of yoga, mental calm and inner balance are promoted in Power Yoga through regularity in the exercises.
