History: The cradle of alpine skiing

Description

In 1901, six pioneers from St. Anton had a brilliant idea: they founded the Arlberg Ski Club, which turned the skiing world on its head.

Two years later, Hannes Schneider revolutionized alpine skiing with his innovative technology and opened the first ski school in Austria.

In 1937, the Galzigbahn was built - the first cable car designed for winter operation.

But how did the boards get to the Arlberg? -

The skiing history of St. Anton am Arlberg began with the work of a Norwegian engineer between 1880 and 1884. He had come to Tyrol to build the Arlberg tunnel - and glided to work on two boards!
