Description
From African lions to the local ibex: Salzburg Zoo delights visitors of all ages with its species-rich animal world. An ideal excursion destination for the whole family in the south of the city of Salzburg.
Marvel at animals from all over the world at Hellbrunn
From the dwarf mouse to the southern white rhinoceros, Salzburg Zoo is home to 150 species and around 1,600 animals from all continents. A highlight is the Africa area with its spacious savannah enclosure and lion house. Red pandas, alpine ibexes and brown bears can be seen in the Eurasian area. The American fauna includes black-tailed prairie dogs and plains tapirs, while parma kangaroos and budgerigars live in the Australian area.
Unique zoo landscape and natural enclosures
The 14-hectare site with its impressive mountain panorama offers plenty of space for large outdoor enclosures. Salzburg Zoo is committed to keeping its animals as close to nature as possible. To this end, the landscape features of Hellbrunn, such as the steep rock faces, are used for the specific habitats required.
Experience the animals first-hand
Around 400,000 visitors a year have many opportunities to get closer to the animals: a zoo safari, a "rendezvous with your favorite animal" or evening tours in summer. In addition to native and exotic wild animals, there are always young animals to see. And the dwarf goats in the petting zoo are particularly happy about a cuddle session.
From archiepiscopal wildlife park to modern nature and species conservation center
The area of today's zoo in the south of the city of Salzburg has been an archiepiscopal wildlife park since the 15th century. The Hellbrunn complex with its palace, trick fountains and zoo was planned by Archbishop Markus Sittikus from 1612 and completed in 1619. Today, Salzburg Zoo is a modern nature and species conservation center - and a highlight for young and old alike!
