The Legend of the Desert Child

Fourteen-year-old Sun learns that her grandfather’s story about an ostrich chick lost in the desert is more than just a bedtime story. To find answers, she travels to the Sahara. There, she follows clues to Hadara, a nomad boy who disappeared in a sandstorm as a toddler and was taken in by ostriches. Along the way, Sun meets the people of the desert, uncovers hidden aspects of her family history, and explores questions of origin, belonging, and the bonds between humans and animals. Her search takes her deeper into the past and the landscape than she ever expected.
