Description
INDIAN SUMMER - Free Closing Hike to the Steineralmen in the Matreier Tauerntal
On this impressive ranger-led hike, you’ll enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the Venediger region. You’ll immerse yourself in the sustainably managed outer zone of the Hohe Tauern National Park and discover how closely nature and traditional land use are intertwined here.
How are the alpine meadows maintained and managed? And why is biodiversity in the managed outer zone often significantly higher than in the untouched core zone? Around the Steineralmen, you’ll gain fascinating insights into the preservation of a unique cultural landscape—shaped by past generations and kept alive to this day.
You’ll need:
✔ Sturdy hiking boots with good traction
✔ Outdoor clothing (including rain and sun protection)
✔ Backpack with snacks and drinks (the inner and outer Steineralmen are already closed!)
Difficulty:
moderate (stamina required)
approx. 600 meters of elevation gain and 3.5–4 hours of pure walking time
