The "Keschtnweg" (chestnut hiking trail) on the orographically right side of the Eisack Valley, leads from the Augustinian canons' monastery of Neustift near B ressanone through light-flooded chestnut forests, cultivated fields and spectacular natural landscapes via the heart of Feldthurns to Runkelstein Castle on the outskirts of the provincial capital of Bolzano. From there the "Keschtnweg" now leads through the beautiful vineyards on the slopes of the Guntschnaberges via Glaning to the Etschtal, to Terlan and Vilpian.
The path shows its most beautiful side especially in autumn and many farms open their parlors and cellars to hikers during the "Törggelezeit". But also in spring and early summer the varied vegetation and the rural everyday culture along the way offer an incomparable scenic charm.
The "Keschtnweg" is a technically easy long-distance hiking trail, more than 90 km long, which can be divided into individual sections that are also worthwhile as day hikes. The multi-day hiking route across the low mountain terraces, at 700-800 m above sea level, runs along hiking trails, mule tracks and roads with little traffic. The entire route is marked with the designation "Keschtnweg".
