Herrengasse 9, Fulpmes
The Giant Circular Painting, first shown in 1896, is a panoramic representation of the third Battle of Bergisel on August 13, 1809 and, after its last relocation, can be viewed since 2011 in the Tirol Panorama at Bergisel in the south of the city of Innsbruck in the immediate vicinity of the battle.
The giant circular painting consists in its center of a raised platform, which the visitor enters from below and on which he can walk the entire painting. Above the platform is a "velum" that controls the incidence of light and prevents the view from falling on the roof structure and the upper edge of the painting. An artificial landscape, the "faux terrain" makes the impression of authenticity perfect and leads over to the curved canvas on which the painting has been painted in a distorted perspective to create the three-dimensional impression typical of panoramas.
