Description
Just a 30-minute drive from Wagrain is the Eisriesenwelt Werfen, the largest ice cave in the world. In a cave system over 42 km long, visitors can explore the first 1 km as part of a guided tour. Thick layers of ice and frozen waterfalls form impressive sculptures inside the Tennengebirge - an underground wonderland of ice and rock. The ascent to the cave is by cable car and footpath, before torches and lanterns illuminate the mystical tour. Temperatures below 0°C even in midsummer make for a refreshing adventure. The approx. 75-minute tour takes you past famous formations such as the "Posselt Dome" and the mighty Ice Palace. The Eisriesenwelt is a unique natural spectacle and is one of the top highlights in Salzburger Land - a cool tip, especially on hot summer days.
