Description
The Freyburg City Church is a special landmark along the Romanesque Route and also lies on the pilgrimage route. It is often referred to as the “little sister” of Naumburg Cathedral, as fascinating similarities can be seen in some of its architectural elements and decorations. Particularly worth seeing are the carved altar, the tympanum above the main entrance, and the sculptural group depicting “Anna Selbdritt.” The large cross depicting Jesus in an exceptionally expressive manner, as well as several historic tombstones, also make this place particularly impressive. A worthwhile visit for anyone who wants to discover the region’s culture, history, and spiritual sites.
