striking mountain range in the Sesto Dolomites on the border between the Italian provinces of Belluno in the south and South Tyrol in the north. The First World War transformed the natural idyll into a terrible theatre of war overnight, in which many people lost their lives and in which the "hero girl of the Three Peaks", Viktora Savs, and Sepp Innerkofler, the commander of the Sesto riflemen, also went down in history. For the Three Peaks and their surroundings were fiercely contested as a front between the Kingdom of Italy and Austria-Hungary. The heroic soldier Viktoria Savs A certain Viktoria Savs wanted to join the front in the Dolomites during the First World War. They turned a blind eye, ordered her to wear men's clothes and told her not to confide in anyone. Viktoria Savs was born in Bad Reichenhall in 1899 and, after her parents separated, grew up with her father Peter near Lake Garda. Shortly before the outbreak of the First World War, the father and his daughter moved to Merano. In 1914 the father was called up to the Kaiserjäger, but soon returned home seriously injured. After his recovery, he joined the Landsturm as a volunteer. His daughter Viktoria, did not want to part from her father at any price. She deceived the muster commission in Meran and was able to join the Standschützenbataillon Meran I on June 10, 1915. From then on, she fought unrecognized as "Viktor Savs", first as an entrenchment worker, then later as a voluntary Landsturm worker. Soon she was promoted to the Landsturm Infantry Battalion Innsbruck II, where her father also served as a private, and received permission to serve at the front. She fought valiantly on the Three Peaks Front and was awarded several medals for bravery. One day, on May 27, 1917, she was seriously injured by a boulder that had been dislodged by a shell impact, and was transported to the military hospital at the Sillian field camp. It was only there that it was discovered, to everyone's astonishment, that the soldier Viktor Savs was in fact a woman. This secret was previously known only to the very few. Now she went down in the history books as the "Hero Girl of the Three Peaks".
