Description
The Liechtensteinklamm near St. Johann im Pongau is one of the deepest and longest gorges in the Alps. Over thousands of years, the Grossarler Ache has cut up to 300 m deep into the rock here. A well-secured path (approx. 1 km accessible) leads visitors through the middle of the gorge, past thundering waterfalls and narrow rock passages. Since its renovation in 2021, the gorge has been impressing visitors with new footbridges and a spiral-shaped viewing platform ("Helix"), which allows dizzying views into the depths. At the end of the gorge, a 50-metre-high waterfall is the crowning glory. The Liechtenstein Gorge is open from mid-May to October and an experience for young and old - there is also a small admission discount with a guest card. This natural spectacle is one of the most visited excursion destinations in Salzburger Land and can be reached by holidaymakers in Wagrain-Kleinarl in around 20 minutes by car.
