Schmilka 11, Bad Schandau
Take a seat by the warm fireplace, enjoy some stollen and sugar cake - and join us on a special journey through Saxon Switzerland. With pictures, stories and conversations, we will walk from Schmilka via Bad Schandau, the Kuhstall and Königstein Fortress to the Bastei, Pirna and Dresden. The focus is on the area around Bad Schandau - the vacation destination of many of our guests.
With a relaxed narrative and a shared interest, we immerse ourselves in the landscapes and times that have shaped this region. Historical photographs and postcards from the turn of the century meet current images and bring the past and present to life.
We talk about people's lives with nature: about careful use and protection, about the first landscape conservation movements around 1900, about the renaturation of former sandstone quarries and today's national park. The Elbe accompanies us as a lifeline - with its paddle steamers and chain tugs, floods and frozen winters that have left a deep mark on the region's memory.
Sandstone quarrying will also be a topic - a material from which buildings such as the Dresden Frauenkirche or the Brandenburg Gate were built. We look at the history of mountaineering, from the first ascents to today's climbing in the national park, and at the worldwide significance of the roots of Saxon climbing, which extend as far as free climbing in America.
Not to be missed are the stories of the spa and bathing industry: from fine companies from Marienbad, Karlsbad and Prague, from spa romances in the "wild and romantic Saxon Switzerland" - to today's spa title of Bad Schandau. Legends, myths and historical facts round off this journey.
Let us invite you on a pictorial journey that not only shows, but also tells - about a unique landscape, its people and their stories. We look forward to seeing you.
