Nature Watch from Above - Early Season

Description

Nature Watch from Above – Oberhaus Wildlife Observation Tower

On the short walk from the Oberhaus parking lot (toll road) to the Oberhaus Alpine Inn, information boards provide fascinating insights into the ecosystem of the Swiss stone pine forest, and you can also learn a great deal about the forest wilderness in the remote Defereggental valley while accompanied by National Park rangers.

Once you arrive at the new 22-meter-high observation tower, you’ll experience the information up close across three floors and enjoy an impressive view of the largest contiguous Swiss stone pine forest in the Eastern Alps —the Oberhauser Swiss stone pine forest, with trees up to 900 years old.

The spotting scope provided on site offers you a unique view of East Tyrol’s wildlife and birdlife, and with a little luck, you might even spot one of the large birds of prey (bearded vultures, golden eagles, etc.).

You’ll need:

✔ Sturdy hiking boots with good traction

✔ Outdoor clothing (including rain and sun protection)

✔ Backpack with snacks and drinks

Difficulty:

Easy hike

Suitable for families with children ages 6 and up

Your National Park partner businesses benefit:

A ranger-led hike is included during your East Tyrol vacation.
